Vaikka etupuolen rakenne muistuttaa l\u00e4heisesti perinteisi\u00e4 N-tyyppisi\u00e4 tai N-PERT-kennoja, takapuolella on eritt\u00e4in ohut piioksidikerros yhdistettyn\u00e4 fosforilla seostettuun mikrokiteiseen amorfiseen piikalvoon. 850 \u00b0C:ssa tapahtuvan hehkutusprosessin aikana piikalvo muuttuu mikrokiteisest\u00e4 amorfisesta vaiheesta monikiteiseksi rakenteeksi.
